Douglas, Editor Greg Ng, and Production Sound Mixer Jan Hetmer, who walked us through the back of the Backrooms, and a profile of the amazing Cinematographer Florian Hoffmeister who recounted his 25+ year career after receiving the prestigious Marburg Camera Prize.
Summer movies are having a tepid weekend while cinephiles around the world await Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which opens next week. For repertory screenings, Kevin Costner’s Oscar-winning epic western Dances with Wolves screens in 35mm at the Vista from 7/10-7/15. The American Cinematheque screens a trio of Nolan films at the ongoing 70mm fest: Dunkirk, Interstellar, and Oppenheimer. The Fine Arts screens the madcap It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World in 70mm on Saturday, with special guests. Spike Lee’s 70s crime thriller, Summer of Sam is playing Saturday at Vidiots. Lastly, Shane Black presents the still relevant and potent 1957 classic, Sweet Smell of Success in 35mm at the Los Feliz 3.

2. Lizard Music: Starts August 3, 2026, across Atlanta, New York and Hawaii. The geographic spread and fantasy material suggest substantial coordination across stages, locations, travel and specialty departments.
